Dis-covers

Please read carefully before starting

You will need:

a sharp knife

a pair of scissors

impact adhesive, preferably a spray can

a staple gun or pop rivet gun

Points to consider before you begin:

Damaged or severely worn foam will need to be repaired or replaced as this will adversely affect both the fit of the cover and the overall finished appearance.

With some motorcycles it may be necessary to remove the frame fixing brackets in order to achieve a good fit. With other brackets removal may not be possible. If this is the case then surplus vinyl should be securely positioned between the bracket and the base.

Important:

With steel bases, ensure that sharp edges around the base are covered with plastic trim, rubber edging or Gaffer/Duck tape.

Fitting:

  1. Carefully remove the old seat cover and ensure you remove the old fixing staples and any old adhesive before proceeding. Take care to see how the old seat cover was cut and folded as you will need to adopt a similar method when fitting the new cover. Your new cover will have additional material all round to provide you with a grip whilst pulling the cover tight.
  1. Once the old cover has been removed, check the foam for damage and repair or replace as necessary. Ensure the foam is completely dry before fitting the replacement cover. Ensure there are no bumps or projections that could spoil the contour of your seat once the cover has been fitted.
  2. Warm the seat cover so the vinyl is supple as it is easier to work with.
  3. Carefully fit the cover over the foam, starting at the front and working your way to the back, ensuring the seams are correctly aligned and the logo (if any) is correctly positioned. Take time to ensure a good fit.
  4. Apply the impact adhesive around the inside edge of the seat cover and the corresponding inside edge of the underside of the seat base.
  5. Starting at the front, pull the seat cover into position and secure with the impact adhesive. Position the back of the cover, and then work along the sides, pulling it taut and smoothing any imperfections as you go. Secure in the same way, bearing in mind the cover can be repositioned for a certain period.
  6. When you have achieved the desired fit, secure in place using a staple gun if you have a plastic base, or a pop rivet gun if you have a steel/fibre glass base.
  7. Take your time and plan each fitting phase carefully. You will then be rewarded with a seat that meets the highest specification.
  8. If all else fails, we offer a fitting service.
